Sunny days for a quick weekend in Mantua, a wonderful medieval city close to Lake Garda, in northern Italy. One of the most beautiful cities, rich in art treasures of the baroque and medieval era, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, who grew up under the rule of the Gonzaga family (1300-1700).
Here is the ceiling of the building where we spent the night, the Museo Palazzo Valenti Gonzaga, with statues of Giovan Battista Barberini (1625-1691) and frescoes attributed to the flemish painter Frans Geffels (1625-1694). The façade of the palace was designed by Nicolò Sebregondi.
Later we spent all day visiting historical Palazzo Ducale and Palazzo Te, winter and summer residence on of the Gonzaga, the powerful family that dominated Mantua for over 300 years during Renaissance and the beautiful surrounds of this incredible small city, full of ancient buildings and art treasures.
